Tuesday of the ESSEC

Tuesday of ESSEC is a association law 1901 whose members are students of ESSEC. Created in 1961, whereas the ESSEC was still located in its historical buildings of Paris, Tuesday of the ESSEC is the first association French coed with launching a platform. Association remained faithful to this pioneer spirit, and is today the first platform coed of France: it thus accommodated François Mitterrand, Pierre Mendès France, Jean Todt, Claude Bébéar, Salvador Dali, Alain Juppe, Emmanuel Chain, Dominique de Villepin, Laurent Fabius…

Quasi-systematic programming of the debates Tuesday evening which quite naturally gave its name to association.

The ambition to create the exchange between personalities of the French public life and students justified the creation of association, and is remained its principal activity by it. Anxious to give several prospects for the topicality to its public, association invites personalities of the political world, economic and cultural.

If these debates could change form during the years, with, in particular, the realization of all the interviews by students since 2002, the key principles crossed the seasons: impertinence, frankness, exchange, opening. With this platform, not of frank and built dialog, but set language.

Since its installation with Cergy in 1973, according to the removal of the ESSEC, association opened also with a public external with the ESSEC, since, today, many students and inhabitants of the Paris region became the unconditional ones of these meetings of Tuesday evening. The access to the debates, which proceed in the Large Lecture theater of the ESSEC with Cergy, is free and free.

Behind each debate is hiding place a frightening organization: it is necessary to print the posters announcing the debate, to write the cards introducing the guest and then distributed to each student of the ESSEC, to document and prepare the interview, to prevent a hundred journalists and institutions partners, to prepare the cocktail, to accommodate the guest and the public, to prepare the camera, before writing a report and all to arrange…

Association and its guests

How association choose does its guests? They are chosen, either because they make the topicality of the moment, or because they have with respect to the latter a certain retreat, or although they carry an original glance to him. It is a question of giving the possibility to the public of hearing of sharp voice a person influencing the political life, economic or cultural. Association endeavors to call on personalities of all the political edges and to all “managements and labor”: trade-union representatives and heads of undertaking, politicians of right-hand side like left… Marc Blondel (then SG of FO), David Douillet (world champion of judo), Lionel Jospin (then Minister for Education), Valery Giscard d'Estaing, Louis Schweitzer (then chairman of Renault), Jacques Chirac are there in particular succédé.

It often happens that certain people are invited several times, in particular politicians. With the wire of time, anecdotes revealed at which point certain guests had appreciated to speak in front of this young often daring public.

Association and the communication

There exists a double axis of communication for Tuesday of the ESSEC: towards the students of Group ESSEC and the public external with the Group.

Each debate is thus announced by posters, cards distributed to all ESSECs, and is relayed then by reports appearing in the weekly magazine partner the Point, like by various publications ensured by the journalist presents the debates: Le Monde, Canard Enchaîné, Le Figaro thus refer to Tuesday of the ESSEC. The debates were also, with the beginning of the year 2000, retransmis on television on the chain Public Senate.

Association and its partners

Since 1961, Tuesday of the ESSEC were supported by various companies. Gaz de France, the Point, and since 2006 the cabinet of audit and council Mazars, is the partners of association.

Association is also related since 2005 to the Institut Montaigne and takes part in the organization of the debates " Free Echanges" , and certain students take share with the think tank.
