Tuc

Tuc is a word Occitan of Indo-European root being used to indicate a height, in general, a hillock or a hill. This microtoponyme, extremely widespread in the countries occitans, knows also the alternatives juice or trick .

History

The castle with mound is a medieval fortification formed by a ground hillock (the mound, or tuc) accompanied by a more or less complex defensive system (ditch, lifting of ground, palisade). This type of habitat develops mainly during XIe and 12th century in relation to the emergence of the Feudal system. For the aristocracy, it represents the symbol of the capacity indeed. The Pays of Born does not escape this social change, the vestiges of seven castles exist on this territory. The construction of these fortifications always rests on the use of local materials and a many labor but without qualification particular to the difference of the stone fortresses.
