Tubular Bels III

Tubular Bells III (1998) is, as its name indicates it, the third album of Mike Oldfield of the series Tubular Bells .

Contrary to Tubular Bels , but like Tubular Bels II , the track is indexed in several pieces, of which each one has a clean title:

  1. The source off secret
  2. The Watchful eye
  3. Jewel in the crown
  4. Outcast
  5. Snake dream
  6. The inner child
  7. Man in the rain
  8. The signal off the morning
  9. Moonwatch
  10. Secret
  11. Far above the clouds

The first six pieces are connected, just as the last four, leaving the pop song Man in the Rain isolated in the medium. This type of assembly is new at Oldfield, which rather places usually this type of piece at the end of the album. In addition, in spite of the sequence of the majority of the pieces, those remain more individualized definitely than in the first two albums of the series, making of Tubular Bells III a more heterogeneous work.

This album includes sonorities resolutely modern, and in particular close to the music Techno, in particular for the use of the electronic battery, the synthetic sounds, and the loops. In this direction, it represents, compared to the first two albums of the series, a true stylistic rupture; however, one always recognizes “something” of the two first, and it is this “something” which constitutes, by induction, the “spirit” of the series.

In particular, one finds inevitable the tubular Carillon éponyme, but also éthérées and calm environments which make the spirit of the series.
