Tuareg blues

The Tuareg Blues is a kind derived from the Blues. It is the music of the Ishumar S (of French unemployed ) i.e. of the generation of Touaregs which knew the dryness, the exile, then the camps of drive in Libya in the years 1980-1990. In Tamasheq, there exists a word to indicate this musical current: Assouf , which means nostalgia.

The precursors of this musical style are Abdallah Ag Oumbadougou with the Niger and Ibrahim Ag Alhabib, Alhassane Ag Touhami and Entayaden with the Mali. To the sound of the accoustic and electric guitars, they carried the claims of their people during the Rébellion touarègue of the years 1990, thus making music a weapon so powerful that the governments of Mali and Niger had prohibited listening of it. In spite of the threats, the clandestine cassettes circulated in all the Tuareg country, spreading messages of revolt in Tamachek, inviting the young men to take the weapons. Today, the peace agreements were signed and it is in alive legends that they give concerts in their country, in the whole world for the members of the group Tinariwen and for Abdallah.

They created a single style, mixes modern music (Blues, Rock,…), of Arab music and traditional music touarègue, which speaks as well about love and honor, as of policy and warlike facts. In their line, many groups were born and the guitar became very popular at the Touaregs, replacing the Inzad little by little, preserving an oral traditional culture by deeply anchoring it in the present.
