Tsumeb

Tsumeb (pronounce " TSOO-meb") is a mining Ville north of the Namibia and the capital of the area of Oshikoto.

Tsumeb is called " the main door of the nord" and is the closest city of the National park of Etosha. It is located at 1000 m with the top of the sea level and counts 12.000 inhabitants (2005). Tsumeb means " hole profond" in language Damara/Nama.

The city is founded in 1905 by the colonial administration German. More important mining city of Namibia with Oranjemund, its basement is rich in Plomb, in Cuivre, money, Cadmium and Germanium.

The streets of the city itself are avoided beautiful Bougainvillier S and Jacaranda S whereas the local museum presents an important collection of Minéraux.

It is to 24 km of Tsumeb, in deep water of the lake Otjikoto (in herero), or Oshikoto (in Ovambo) that the German troops in rout threw all their weapons and ammunition (including 10 supports of guns, 3 machine-guns, 5 guns, 300 or 400 coaches of ammunition) to the approach of the South-African troops in 1915.

The underground lake of Harasib is also very close.

Largest Meteorite of the world, weighing 60 tons, was crushed at 40 minutes in the car of Tsumeb, in Hoba West, very close to the town of Grootfontein. This meteorite, known as " of Hoba" , is a tourist attraction today.
