History
Not having never known clean political unification, Tsimihety fall under control from the conquerors sakalava from Boina as of the end the 17th century. Later, their territory will be according to certain source subjected to the capacity of the sovereigns Merina, it is certain on the other hand that the population has to lute against this domination. It would seem thus that their name of " tsimihety" (those which do not cut the hair) comes owing to the fact that they had refused to carry the mourning of Radama I {{er}}.
Philibert Tsiranana, the first president of the Malagasy Republic is of origin tsimihety.
