Diodote Tryphon was the general of Antiochos VI Dyonisos wire of the usurper Alexandre {{Ier}} Balas. In -144, it makes it crown in competition with Démétrios II and enters Antioche.

Tryphon, which fears to lose the control of the Cœlé-Syria, makes stop the high priest of Jerusalem Jonathan Macchabée and massacre his guard with Ptolémaïs.
