Diodote Tryphon was the general of Antiochos VI Dyonisos wire of the usurper Alexandre {{Ier}} Balas. In -144, it makes it crown in competition with Démétrios II and enters Antioche.

Tryphon, which fears to lose the control of the Cœlé-Syria, makes stop the high priest of Jerusalem Jonathan Macchabée and massacre his guard with Ptolémaïs. He claims that Jonathan at stopped summer because he did not pay the tax of with the royal treasure, and is made give 100 talent of money and the two wire of Jonathan in exchange of a promise of release which he does not hold.
