Trygve Halvdan Lie (1896 - 1968) was a diplomat and a Norwegian politician . It was the first General secretary of the United Nations.
Member of the Norwegian Parliament (the Storting) as of 1935, it directed various ministries of 1936 until the invasion of Norway by the German . He left in exile with the government to London and became Foreign Minister of the Norwegian Government in exile in 1941. For this reason, it led the Norwegian Delegation the Conférence of San Francisco (April-June 1945), where was signed the Charte of the United Nations. It chaired the charged commission it to write the treating chapter of the Charter of the Safety advice.
After the release of its country, it became again Foreign Minister in October 1945. It is in this quality that it led the Norwegian Delegation the first session of the General meeting of the United Nations to London in 1946.
The 1946, it was elected first General secretary of the United Nations for one 5 years period.
November 1st 1950, the General meeting decided to prolong 3 years the mandate of Trygve Lie. But, the November 10th 1952, it resigned under the Soviet pressure because of its attitude during the Guerre of Korea.
It is the April 10th 1953 which the Swedish diplomat Dag Hammarskjöld took his succession.
Returned in Norway, Trygve Lie there occupied various ministerial positions and carried out several diplomatic missions.
