Truman doctrine
The Truman doctrine was born in 1947, it is the base of the policy of the the United States against the Communist bloc during the Cold war.
I believe that the United States must support the free people which resist attempts at control (...). I believe that we must help the free people to forge their destiny (...). I believe that our assistance must consist primarily of a support economic and financial. (...) to maintain the freedom of the States of the world and to protect them from advanced the communist.
Concretely, the Truman doctrine, or policy of “Containment” (of damming up), is based on an offer of military aid and financial on behalf of the the United States, being addressed to the countries decided to be opposed to the communist pressures. In the immediate future post-war period, it related to the countries most exposed the such Greece, the Turkey or the Iran, and if it has carried its fruits to Europe (with in particular the “Marshall plan” which results from this directly), the Truman doctrine will not have same success in Asia (in particular in China). However, it is in the beginning (partly at least), thanks to the Marshall plan of the economic rise of Japan.
One can however agree that this measurement marks the true beginning of the arm wrestling of the Cold war. It will be followed antagonistic Soviet proclamation of the Doctrine Jdanov.
