Tropical storm Aletta (2006)

The tropical storm Aletta is the first of the cyclone season 2006 for the basin of the North-East of the Pacific Ocean. The name Aletta had already been used in 1974,1978,1982,1988,1994 and 2000.

Chronology

May 21st, 2006, a tropical Onde reached slowly is Pacific Ocean coming from the Central America. On May 23rd and 24th, the tropical wave entered in interaction with a depressionary hollow close to the Golfe of Tehuantepec and organized in tropical Perturbation. May 25th, a depressionary hollow of surface was formed to a few hundred kilometers in the south of Acapulco (Mexico). The shearing of the wind prevented the development of it.

However, early on May 27th, shearing weakens notably and the system was organized in Tropical depression, towards 6:00 UTC, with 305 Kilomètre S (165 nautical miles) in the south-west of Acapulco. Towards 18:00 UTC, the Nuage S convectifs started to structure itself in bands of Précipitation S and the system became Tropical storm. The National Hurricane Center indicated it under the name of Aletta . The cyclone quickly reached its maximum intensity of 75 km/h (45 Mi/h) on May 28th towards 6:00 UTC with 200 kilometers (110 nautical miles) in the south-west of Acapulco.

Aletta moved initially towards the North-East towards the Mexican coast, but a weak hollow in these sectors pushed back it. Early on May 28th, Aletta turned thus towards the west. Reaching a zone of weak oceanic currents, the cyclone had a trajectory in loop. May 29th, Aletta derived towards the west. The return of the shearing of the wind and the presence of dry air weakened the cyclone in tropical depression towards 18:00 UTC on May 29th. Slowly, the system moved towards the west-north-west while weakening. May 31st, 2006, towards 0:00 UTC, Aletta became a depressionary hollow, which was dissipated shortly after.
