Triumph Spitfire
The Triumph Spitfire is a built British car Roadster 1962 with 1980. During this manufacture, 5 models followed one another.
Spitfire 4 (MK 1)
1962: In October, Triumph Spitfire is presented to London under the name of Spitfire 4 (for 4 cylinders). This vehicle takes again the machine elements of the Triumph Herald, with an engine of 1147 Cm3. Drawn by the designer Italy N Giovanni Michelotti, the purpose of this Roadster had proud pace and was to compete with the Austin Healey Sprite, in the field of small the roadsters economic. Its box includes/understands 4 reports/ratios (1st not synchronized), the indicators and the night lights are out of glass and separated, the grill is with 8 bars, + is it with the mass, the instrument panel is painted same color that the case and the wheel are black with 2 branches. Lastly, the hood is dismountable and is put in the trunk.
Spitfire MK 2
1964: Stop of Spitfire 4 and beginning of production of Spitfire Mk2. It is distinguished from Spitfire 4 by an increased power, a clutch with diaphragm, an intake manifold heated by the liquid of cooling, a manifold exhaust to 4 separate branches. The grill includes/understands 5 bars widened, the interior is a little more comfortable with more enveloping seats, buckled fitteds carpet and panels of against doors entirely furnished. The instrument panel is entirely black and the handles of the doors are raised.
Spitfire MK 3
1967: Stop of Spitfire Mk2 and beginning of production of Spitfire Mk3 in January. It is equipped with an engine of 1300 Cm3 which enable him to have an important power for its weight. The very first models will take again the case of the mk2 but the model will quickly be modified. The Pare-chocs before is raised while those with the back from now on are stripped of stops. The round indicators and night lights are replaced by more modern indicators. There are reversing lights to the back, - is it with the mass, it is also equipped with a completely folding hood with fixed arches, with a wheel with 3 branches and an instrument panel out of wooden. In 1970, the model will be slightly modified (flying, broader monograms, rims).
Spitfire MK 4
1970: Beginning of production of Spitfire Mk4. Its design is completely re-examined by Michelotti. The front face is slightly modified. The cap does not comprise any more a central vein, nor joints at the top of the wings, the framework of Pare-brise is not dismountable any more. In fact, it is especially the back part which is re-examined. It adopts from now on a back with cut side, a bumper of only one part of different fires. The instrument panel is found behind the wheel and the seats are more comfortable. The back suspension is modified in order to avoid the variations of set and the Gear box is now entirely synchronized. The side panes are not round any more, a new hardtop is carried out. The dynamo is replaced by an alternator.
Spitfire 1500
1974: Spitfire Mk4 is stopped in December and it is the beginning of production of Spitfire Mk1500. Its engine is one 1500 Cm3 long race which with the reputation to be very fragile. The chrome accessories are definitely fewer. A small spoiler is added under the bumper before and of the specific stickers are laid out on the vehicle.1980: It is the end of the production of Spitfire 1500, little time before the disappearance of the mark Triumph, in 1984.
