Tristan Bernard , of his true name Paul Bernard , born with Besancon the September 7th 1866 and died in Paris the December 7th 1947, is a writer French. He is famous for his witty remarks.

Biography

After a teaching followed to the College Condorcet and studies of right, this wire of architect started a lawyer career. But he preferred soon to turn to the businesses and took the direction of an aluminum factory with Creil. Its taste for the sport also led it to take the direction of a cycle-racing track with Neuilly-sur-Seine.

In 1891, it started to collaborate in the White Review . It is on this occasion that it takes for Tristan pseudonym, the name of a horse on which it had put successfully at the races (it had the passion of the horse-races and was the inventor of the Board game small horses).

Its first novel ( will say You to me such an amount of! ) was published in 1894, and its first play ( Nickelled Feet ) was created the following year.

Friend very close to Leon Blum, but also to Jules Fox, Marcel Pagnol, Lucien Guitry and of good of other artists, Tristan Bernard was known for his word games, novels and play, and was a promoter of the cross Mots.

Tristan Bernard gave some articles to the beginning of the Canard connected in 1917, then the testimony of its sympathy by taking part in particular in the Almanac of the holidays of 1921. To publish Tristan Bernard for connected Duck, was the sign sent to the assistantship that this newspaper was “ funny, fine and Parisian ”. It chairs the banquets for the number-birthdays of the newspaper in 1931 and 1934. The last stanza of the song Marquise of Georges Brassens, which answers the poem of Corneille taken again by the singer, was written by Tristan Bernard: “Perhaps that I will be old, Marquise answers, however I have twenty-six years, my old Crow, And I emmerde while waiting for you. ”

At the end of its life, it was stopped and off-set with the Camp of Drancy. With its departure for the camp, it will have for his wife this sentence: “Until now we lived in the anguish, from now on, we will live in the hope. ” It will be released three weeks later thanks to the intervention of Sacha Guitry and the actress Arletty. Its grandson, Francois, deportee with Mauthausen did not return from there. It never recovered from this disappearance and died little of time afterwards.

It is in reference to its work Mémoires of a young person-man arranged that Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir chooses the title Mémoires of an arranged young person-girl . Its work With the barks was adapted in 2005 to the cinema by the Philippe Collin realizer, with for main actor Elie Semoun.

It had three wire. The first, Jean-Jacques, were a dramatic author, promoter of the " theater of the silence" ( Martine ). He also testified on the universe concentrationnaire ( the camp of slow death , red bread ). The second, Raymond, were a large realizer of cinema (in particular the Poor wretches , first cinematographic version, in black and white). The third, Etienne, were professor of medicine, phthisiologist, and contributed to the diffusion of the BCG. Tristan Bernard is buried with the Cimetière of Passy to Paris.
