Tristão Vaz Teixeira (born towards 1395 - 1480) was a navigator and exploring Portuguese which took part, with João Gonçalves Zarco and Bartolomeu Perestrelo with the discovery, the recognition and the colonization of Madeira and its archipelago in (1419 - 1420).

Gentleman of the house of Henri the Navigator, it accepted in recognition of his services, to be appointed captain-governor of half of the island (that dependant on Machico). Its true name was Tristão Vaz; Teixeira was assistant to him later as a patronym of his wife Branca Teixeira.
