The Tripura (in Bengali: bn ত্রিপুরা) is a State located in the North-East of the India. Its capital is Agartala.
History
Tripura is mentioned in the
Mahâbhârata , the
Purana and of the inscriptions dating from the reign of the emperor
Ashoka. The kings of will tripura directed the area during 3.000 years before its fusion with the Indian Union in 1949. Udaipur was the original capital, before being moved with
Agartala at the 18th century.
The kingdom was integrated into India in 1949. Tripura was strongly affected by the Partition of the Indies and the majority of the current population includes/understands Hindous of Bengali origin, refugees of the Eastern Pakistan. Tripura became a territory of the Union on July 1st, 1963 and a State with whole share on January 21st, 1972.
Geography
Tripura is a mountainous State of the North-East of India, of which altitude varies between 15 and 940 m above the sea level, having a tropical climate. It is surrounded in north, the west and the south by the
Bangladesh and is accessible from the remainder of India that by the District of Cachar of the
Assam or the District of Aizawl of the
Mizoram to the East. Tripura extends between 22° 56 ' NR and 24° 32 ' NR, and between 90° 09 ' E and 92° 10 ' E. To the maximum, it measure 184 km of North in the South and 113 km of West in Are, for a surface of: 10492 km ². Tripura is the third smaller State of the country.
Subdivisions
From the administrative point of view, Tripura is subdivided in 4 districts, 17 subdivisions and 40 blocks of development.
The main cities of the State are Agartala, Badharghat, Jogendranagar, Dharmanagar, Pratapgarh, Udaipur, Kailashahar, Teliamura, Indranagar, Khowai and Belonia. Badharghat, Jogendranagar and Indranagar belong to the municipality of Agartlala.

is official language, the old language of Tripura was the Kokborok, a language of the sub-group known as "
Bodo " " group; jingpho-konyak-bodo" branch Tibéto-Burmese of the
Languages sino-Tibetans.
