Triple crown (hippism)

The triple crown consists of a series of three races for horses English Pur-sang 3 years, out of three different distances. To gain these three races is the top of the classicism, and a all the more rare exploit as today the specialization of the horses at their distance makes it less and less probable to Europe.

England

The Triple crown is thus made up starting from the victories of West Australian in 1853 in the three greater English tests for 3 years.

Tests

  1. 2000 Guineas Stakes, run at the beginning of May on the hippodrome of Newmarket, on the distance of 1600 m (a mile).

  2. the Derby Stakes, run at the beginning of June on the hippodrome of Epsom, on the distance of 2400 m (a mile and half).
  3. the Light St Stakes, run at the beginning of September on the hippodrome of Doncaster, on the distance of 2800 m (14 furlongs).

15 horses only managed to gain to it British triple crown, of which a French, Gladiateur in 1865. The , latest to date Nijinsky, was crowned in 1970. It was about a first since 1935. The challenge fell in disuse since the foalta do not specialize more and more at a distance. After Nijinsky, only Nahswan made a success of doubled the 2000 Guineas/Derby, and only one derby-winner gained in the tread the Light St ( Reference Not in 1987).
