The Sopwith Triplan was a triplane fighter plan British of the First World War.
This apparatus was developed starting from the Sopwith Pup and, with an aim of improving his aptitudes and his handiness, one added a third wing to him. The prototype was ready in May 1916.
Its operational startup took place in November 1916, but it was replaced by the Sopwith Camel more powerful after only one year of service. On the whole 152 specimens of this apparatus were built. It was certainly handy, but it was handicapped by a too weak armament and insufficient performances in flight. The Germans took up the idea of a triplane plane and developed the Fokker Dr.I which knew a more brilliant career.
