Trip hop

The trip hop is a musical genre born with the beginning of the year 1990, in the area of Bristol. This kind does not have a precise definition, one generally describes it with precursory artists such as Massive Attack, Portishead, Björk, Morcheeba, Hooverphonic or Tricky which did not return in any category.

Analyzes

This musical genre has as a base rhythmic a Hip-hop, on which come to be grafted all kinds of influences, Jazz, Blues, Electronic music, Film music, Soul, Rock, Dub, etc It grew rich thus much and it breaks up now into many sub-genera (acid-jazz, downtempo, electro-dub, electro-jazz, electro-free,…). Eclecticism is of setting. The artistic goal of the majority of the groups asserting trip hop is to create a music “planing”, with the aspect generally melancholic person and calm (even if faster influences in the tempo exist).

One generally agrees on the fact that the roots of the trip hop are in the groups evolving/moving in the British city of Bristol to the beginning of the year 1990, with the image of Portishead, Massive Attack and of Tricky. But the first achievements of the kind are of producing Smith & Mighty of first individual of Massive Attack. The etymology of the term trip hop comes in addition from the contraction of the expression Abstract hip-hop, an instrumental and experimental branch of the Hip-hop. Thus, while being inspired many the already existing kinds, the goal of the trip hop is to get a transcendent emotion by working a side innovating and experimental. The sound often rich and is thus composed of many superimposed tracks, mixing voices, instruments and samples electronic, with the image of the Endtroducing of DJ Shadow, often quoted like reference on the matter.

The kind is made known more and more (grace for example to the musics of publicities which contains much trip hop). It touches nevertheless the general public little.
