History
Trilogy (of the Greek tri meaning Three and of logos meaning report/ratio) is the name given at the former Greeks to a meeting of three dramatic parts represented in the same theatrical meeting, and generally dependant between them by the more or less narrow Analogie of the subjects. Thus one indicated by the collective name of Orestie the Agamemnon , the Coéphores and the Euménides of Eschyle. When to the tragic trilogy one added a Drame satyric, this unit took the name of Tétralogie (of the Greek tetra- meaning Four and of logos ).
Topicality
The trilogy term is nowadays used in several types of Art: one finds it mainly for the Cinéma, with Film S like Star Wars and Matrix, in the Cartoon, some video games like Xenosaga, but little in the Théâtre.There exists also a quite particular trilogy in alpinism, that which consisted in climbing as a recluse and in the same winter (1977-1978) the three more famous faces north of the Alps: Cervin, Large Jorasses, Eiger, first successful by the guide of French High mountain Ivano Ghirardini.
Medicine
A trilogy is a Syndrome gathering three Symptôme S: for example the Trilogy of Hand lantern.
Sociology
In a more general way, any speciality supposes the existence of a trilogy of points of sights to be encircled to solve to it (them) Double constraint (S) born (S) of insufficient considerations: it is this implicit method, in the middle of sociology, that Georges Dumézil contributed to make more explicit (see Trinité (sociology)).
Literature
In literature, a trilogy corresponds to an account divided into three volumes and/or a series of three works whose subjects are dependant. The term of trilogy is used for the novels and other literary works. Famous examples of trilogy: the Ants (of Bernard Werber), or more recently the trilogy of the Gods (of Bernard Werber also) or in the French literature for example: the trilogy of Coûfontaine of Paul Claudel.
Cinema
In the cinematographic field, just like in literature, a trilogy corresponds to a work divided into three parts. Some examples: Star Wars , Terminator , Matrix
Neologism
The word " prélogie" was invented by the fans of Star Wars by contracting the " term; trilogie" with the prefix " pré". In the world of Star Wars, the " prélogie" indicate the three films which precede diégétiquement the traditional trilogy Star Wars, but which was carried out more than fifteen years afterwards.
