Trillium foetidissimum
Trillium foetidissimum is a herbaceous, long-lived and rhizomateuse plant of the family of the Liliaceae (traditional Classification) or Melanthiaceae (Classification APG II, 2003).
Description
This plant originating in Louisiana flowers in spring in the forests of the ravines and the alluvial plains. The petals from 1,5 to 4 cm are crimsons or maroon. The oval sheets have very marked spots. The fruit is a bay chestnut.
Surface of distribution
Louisiana in the east of the Mississippi.
Others
The variety luteum J.D. Freeman is with yellow or yellow flower lemon-yellow. When the weather is hot, this species spreads an unpleasant odor. Its sheets are very decorative.
