Trille

In the Western tonal music, a trille is a musical ornament, imagined at the 16th century, which consists in alternating the basic note very quickly (the principal note), on which is noted the trille, and notes it just above located.

This ornament for example is used to give relief to a held note.

The beat of the trille is always carried out with the following natural note in the order of the diatonic scale. The interval between the principal note and the trille thus depends on the armor.

According to the context of interpretation one can distinguish:

  • the traditional trille , which implies in first the principal note;
  • the trille baroque which is interpreted as if it were preceded by a appoggiatura.

The trille is noted tr. often followed by a corrugated horizontal feature which runs on all the behavior of the note. When the second note must be faded, one places deterioration below the sign tr. Of small the figures of notes indicates sometimes the manner of beginning and of finishing the trille.
