The Trigonocéphale ( Bothrops lanceolatus ) is a very poisonous snake, subfamily of the Crotalinae of the kind Bothrops , kind spread in South America and the the Antilles. The trigonocéphale is specific to the island of the Martinique. It is called also spearhead of Martinique.

The trigonocéphale is very dangerous for the man in the event of bite, however as it is rare few accidents are not fortunately to regret. It belongs to a certain mythology inhabitant of Martinique.

In fact, he attends primarily the forests and the plantations where he carries out hunting against his usual preys, birds and small rodent.

The mongoose and the trigonocéphale

At the 19th century, the Mangouste ( Herpestes javanicus ) was imported of the Indies to fight the “trigo”. However these two enemies do not live at the same hours and thus, in evil of predation, the mongoose, which in addition hardly appreciates the flesh of the snakes, folded back itself on hens and the eggs, any kind of eggs, so much so that many birds, like the Perroquet S, disappeared from the island.
