Bathyscaphe developed by Auguste Piccard and repurchased by the American navy in 1958, carries out on January 23rd, 1960, under the piloting of Jacques Piccard (wire of Auguste) and of Gift Walsh (officer of the US Navy), a limiting descent of 10.916 m in the Fosse of Mariannes, thus establishing a record. It makes then many scientific and military divings, limited to 6.000 m, until in 1986.
