Tribe (ethnology)

From a historical point of view, a tribe consists of a social formation existing before the formation of the State. Many people use this term to refer to people having nonEuropean lifestyles or indigenous companies. Certain ethnologists use this word to indicate the companies organized on the basis of family ties, especially of the families having the same descent. In certain countries like the the United States, or the India, the tribes are native-born people which have a legal recognition in the country concerned. The governments of the tribes can be a chief of tribe or a kind of council of tribe, which represents the tribe and is generally composed elderly and wise.

Concept discussed considerably at the ethnologists: the latter see differences between the tribe before the State and that contemporary; some of these debates reflect a controversy around the colonianism. In popular imagination, the tribes reflect a lifestyle allegedly more " naturel" that the modern State. The tribes would have welfare benefits because they are homogeneous, patriarchal and stable. Some believe that the tribes are organized according to family ties, and have a social ideology based on solidarity.

In 1972, Morton Fried in its The Concept off the Tribe watch of many examples of members of tribes which speak various languages and practice different ritual or share languages and practices coming from other tribes. It shows also various examples of tribes which follow different leader policies. He concludes that the tribes in general are characterized by a heterogenite of thoughts.

The archeologists continue to explore the development of the pre-official tribes. Research shows that the tribal structures have a type of adaptation according to the situations.
