Trevor Marshall
Trevor G. Marshall , PhD, born in 1948 with Adelaide (Australia), is researcher in biomedecine. He is at the origin of the “ Protocole Marshall ”, a therapeutic protocol which he invented and which is supposed to treat chronic diseases such as the Sarcoïdose, the chronic Syndrome of tiredness (CFS) and the Arthrite rhumatoïde thanks to an association of an antibiotic and an inhibiter of the receiver of the Angiotensine II. This protocol is experimental, its effectiveness was not shown scientifically, and it was not validated by the medical community. According to Marshall, these diseases would answer its treatment because they would be due to bacteria “L-Form” (or bacteria with the defective cellular walls, named in English Cell Wall Deficient bacteria). During the treatment, the patient must avoid vitamin D.
Its professional path and beginning of its work in medicine
Trevor Marshall began its higher learning with a license and a control in Electric Engineering (1978).
During its studies, he taught in New Guinea-News-Guinea during one year before joining off the personnel of the Western Australian Institute Technology (today The Curtin University) in 1975.
After having obtained its control, it came to the University off Western Australia where it began its doctoral research in Biomédecine. For this period, he studied the Diabète and infertility in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Its research was directed towards the description of a new use of the LHRH in the treatment of cryptorchidism as well as male and female sterility.
In 1982, Mr. Trevor Marshall settled in California while continuing his research as “a Scientific Visitor” near the service surgical of Hospital for Sick Children of Toronto, which during this time was with the point of research in pediatry on the diabetes. This collaboration was at the origin of an article on “ technologies of infusion of insulin ” and its doctoral thesis, the “ Modelling and Simulation in Diabetes Care ” which it carried out in Engineering and Modeling in University off Australia Western in 1984.
Its interest on Sarcoidosis
During its academic works in the Seventies, Trevor Marshall discovered that it was reached Sarcoïdose. For better knowing its own disease, it continued its doctoral research in this field.
Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomateuse disease which restricts the functionality of the lungs, and which has an negative impact on the nodules Lymphatiques and other bodies. The disease, generally benign, can sometimes be mortal between 10 to 20 years after its diagnosis. Even today, this disease belongs to the diseases of unknown origin for which there does not exist specific curative treatment. Sarcoidosis is an autoimmune disease, this is why this one is treated by drugs immuno-suppressors including the corticoïstéroïdes.
The vitamin D and Sarcoidosis
During its stay in New Guinea-News-Guinea in 1974 as a teacher, Marshall starts to notice the interaction between its exposures to the sun and the aggravation of the symptoms of its disease. During several tens of years, it will determine the crucial role of the vitamin D coming from the incidental radiation on the health condition of the patient.
In 1999, after having discovered that certain patients of sarcoidosis, taking drugs known for their function of inhibiters of the receiver of angiotensin, had developed neurological reactions, it starts to be interested in the class of drugs known under the name of inhibiter of Angiotensin II (ARB' S), more particularly the antagonistic receivers of angiotensin. In 2001, in order to concentrate entirely on this reaction, it takes a sabbatical leave.
Its research enabled him to conclude that these unexpected symptoms, occurring among patients of sarcoidosis who were under treatment of the ARB' S, were directly related to the system immune.
A few years later, in 2006, by the use of the molecular genomy (Genome) and of the mathematical models, it shows how the ARB' S could model the nuclear receivers of the system immune. Its models show how the receiver of the vitamin D (VDR) must be activated to make it possible the body to initiate the innate good answer of the system immune.
It carried out other studies in molecular modeling in order to better include/understand the exact effect of the metabolites of the vitamin D on the VDR. It made it possible to discover that the hydrovitamine D - 25 (25D OH) which acts like a steroid, sticks to the receiver, decontaminates it and firm the first line of defense of the body against an intracellular infection.
The bacterium in sarcoidosis
In 2001, Trevor Marshall reads a report/ratio of Mr. K. Nilsson on the presence of the genetic material of the “Rickettsia helvetica” in the granulomes of two dead patients of sarcoidosis. This report/ratio as well as others written by the microbiologist Lida H. Mattman and Doctor Emil & Barbara Wirostko bring it to the conclusion that intra-phagocytic bacteria L-form could be responsible for the typical biochemical process of sarcoidosis.
The same year, Mr. Trevor Marshall publishes “a pathogenesis for Sarcoidosis” followed in 2004 by a final study in Autoimmunity Review : “sarcoidosis succumbs to antibiotics””.
A treatment which takes form
In its article in 2004, Marshall showed that the patients reached of an autoimmune disease have a fault corrigeable system immune which is caused by a dysregulation of vitamin D.
Finally in his article, the researcher showed how a whole whole of chronic diseases which it names the diseases of the Th1 type, would result from the same bacterial pathogenesis as sarcoidosis. Thus, in each disease of the Th1 type, the slackening of the cytokines Th1 would be due directly to phagocytic biochemistry of the L-Form bacteria.
Trevor Marshall put forth the assumption that the Immune system of these patients was likely to be restored with the following treatment:
-
Taken ARB Benicar Olmetec (Olmersatan),
- To avoid any source of vitamin D exogenic, present in the dietetics and/or catalyzed by the exposure to the sun and bright light,
- Employment pulsated of antibiotic with bottom dosage.
Marshall had then the certainty that the slackening of cytokines and endotoxines generated by this reaction could cause an increase in the symptoms of the ignition of the Th1 type, passed or current.
These concepts became the fundamental points of the Marshall treatment for the Th1 disease. This treatment is called the “Marshall Protocol”.
The Web sites dedicated to its clinical study
In 2002 in order to study the use of the Marshall protocol as a curative treatment of sarcoidosis, Marshall developed the Web site Sarcinfo.com.
Testimonys of the patients according to the clinical test made it possible to confirm that almost all the patients knew a strong immunopathologic reaction a disappearance of their symptoms. A report/ratio detailing these figures was presented at the time of the conference of 2006 “Days off Molecular Medicine”.
In March 2006, Trevor Marshall was invited to present its treatment, as a `invited Professor', by the Center of evaluation of the drugs of the FDA.
In the same year, it published, in collaboration with several authors, a chapter on the dysregulation of the Vitamin D in the book Vitamin D: New Research .
It organized two conferences on the treatment of the chronic diseases; the first in 2005 in Chicago entitled Recovering from Chronic Disease and the second in Los Angeles in 2006 heading Sarcoidosis, Autoimmunity, AIDS & Cancers: Recovering from Chronic Disease .
In 2007, Trevor Marshall accepted off a pulpit in School Biological Sciences and Biotechnology in Murdoch University.
