Trevélez

Trevélez is a village of Spain, in the Province of Grenade, autonomous community of Andalusia of a superfice of 91 km ² and 831 inhabitants, 97 km from Grenade. Most of the territory of the commune - highest of the Iberian peninsula (approximately 1750m of altitude for Barrio Viola), - is located in the national park of Sierra Nevada. The culminating point of the Iberian peninsula (Mulhacén, 3481m) is shared between the communes of Güéjar Sierra in north, Capileira in the west and Trevélez.

Trevélez is known for the quality of its Jambon S, due to the extreme dryness of the air in spite of the proximity of the sea.

The name of Trevélez would be drawn from its founders, the three Velez brothers, who would have founded each one a village with mountainside, three " quartiers" named upwards Barrio Bajo, Barrio Medio and Barrio Viola.
