Trenitalia

Trenitalia is a Railway company Italy, subsidiary company with 100% of the group of State FS (Ferrovie dello Stato). It was born on June 1st 2000 from a reorganization of the group FS which filialisé its main activities to respect obligation of the legal and organic separation of the lines of business of Transport (travellers and goods) of that of management of the network, imposed by the EU law.

The company restored its accounts as of the year 2002, finishing the first exercise of the new business with a Bénéfice of 30 million euros (for a total Turnover of 5,114 billion euros, including 2,842 commercial billion recttes and 1,746 billion contributions of the State and areas within the framework of the “contracts of service” (missions of Public service).

Trenitalia is organized in four great divisions:

division Passengers: passenger transport to average and long distances; (services Eurostar, Intercity, Express train);
division Regional transport;
division Cargo liner: goods transport and logistics;
division rolling stock (UTMR, Unità Tecnologie Materiale Rotabile): maintenance and management of the field-installed machines.

Activities

In 2004 Trenitalia S.p.A. had of a manpower of 56.000 paid (the Group Ferrovie dello Stato S.p.A. counted to the maximum of 235.000 paid in 1980) and a fleet of 63.000 travelling machines.

The average day laborer of the transported people is of 1,5 million passengers and 250.000 tons of goods.

The turnover corresponding was of more than 4 billion euros.

Passenger transport to long distance

The ways of long distances are ensured by oars at high speed ETR 500 - ETR 480 and 460, but also by traditional express trains.

At the end of the the Nineties Trenitalia launched an important investment campaign for the acquisition of rolling stocks of new generation like the oars ETR 500.

At the same time the new E464 engines made their appearance on the fast convoys.

Regional transport

During the Nineties Trenitalia launched an important investment campaign for the acquisition of rolling stocks of new generation like new car models and complete oars - Minuetto, Vivalto, TAF ecc. - which will be completed in 2008.

Goods transport

In 2003, division cargo liner transported 82,5 22,6 billion and ton million ton-kilometers (tk). It is organized in six branches of industry:

Transport combined (containers, mobile cases and semitrailers; 45% of the traffic in tk);
produced iron and steel;
chemicals;
public administrations, Automobile S and spare parts;
different goods (wood, paper, agro-alimentary, Large distribution);
international traffic.

Partnerships are set up with subsidiary companies of the group like with foreign railway companies. One can quote in particular:

BRC (Brenner Rail Cargo liner), common company with the Deutsche Bahn and Austrian ÖBB to develop the traffic on the axis of the Brenner between Vérone and Munich;
Sideuropa, with the SNCF for the transport of iron and steel products;
LMC (Logistica Mediterranea Cargo liner), with the Renfe (Spanish railroads).
