The tremolite is a type of Amiante. Of the family of the amphiboles, the tremolite, whose fibers are particularly long, is the most dangerous asbestos shape.
In 1994, Inserm denounces the use of the tremolite in a paint blanchâtre coating the boxes kanakes New Caledonia, Pö, made with this friable rock. It is the colonial administration which in the beginning had recommended to the Kanaks " blanchir" their dwellings to give an aspect more specific to the tribes. Analyzes revealed, at the time of the domestic activities, of the concentrations being able to be higher than 7.000 fibers per liter of air, whereas the threshold value in the buildings is of five fibers.
