Tremblade

Tremblade is a common French, located in the department of the Charente-Maritime and the area Poitou-Charentes.

Geography

In the Peninsula of Arvert, at the edge of the estuary of the Seudre, on left bank, vis-a-vis Marenne oyster (on Right Bank).

Within the Oyster basin of Marenne oyster-Oléron.

History

1300 - Tremblade became one of the largest exporting salt ports of France.

1400 - The agglomeration trembladaise comprises already 3 driven ports of the wolf, the round hold, the workshop.

1660 - A royal squadron of 7 buildings is disarmed with driven wolf. At that time XlV louis sought to create a large military port on the Atlantic, “driven wolf” was in string, for various reasons it is Rochefort which carried it. But one continued to accommodate and to repair many ships until the end of the 17th century such as “the fame” of the commander Foran (1662), “the large one” of the Captain Jehan de Lestrille (1675), driven wolf will become a cemetery of boats.

1789 - 2000 inhabitants. During these revolutionary years Tremblade will take the name of the Meeting on Seudre.

1794 - The marquis de Conflans, last owner of the grounds trembladaises gives up his goods with the state, the cultivable grounds are sold, the immense coastal area delivered to sands, undoubtedly fauted' purchaser, remains with the state.

1876 - Tremblade is classified 5th wearing of France after La Rochelle traffic 8300 tons (oysters, salt).

1945 - In February the Germans set fire to the center town, on April 14th unloading of driven wolf and Bramble release and Tremblade (13 to the 17 - April).

1984 - Inauguration of a monument to driven wolf commemorating the unloading of 1945.

1985 - Work of coastal protection with driven wolf.

Economy

The economy of the city of Tremblade rests primarily on the production of oysters and thus of all the activities around ostreiculture. The coalfield of oysters of Tremblade, Marenne oyster and of the Island of Oléron is most important in the world. It is located in the estuary of Seudre. The city also put on the development of Tourism, in particular thanks to the opening of the Casino, the marina downtown and the project of deep water port to “driven wolf”.
