Treaty of Paris (1952)

See also: Treaty of Paris

The purpose of the treated of Paris of 1952 was to institute the CED (European Community of defense). Composed of 132 articles, it was adopted by the governments German (FRG) and of the Benelux countries the May 27th 1952.

However, this treaty was not ratified by France. Indeed, the August 30th 1954, the French National Assembly, with the opposition of the Communists and the gaullists, of part of the Socialists and radicals, refuses to ratify the treaty by adopting a preliminary question. The fear of German rearmament weighed heavy in this decision.

The Italian government, did not ratify this treaty either.
