Treaty of Edinburgh

This treaty was signed the July 6th 1560 by the Parlement of Scotland. It partly puts an end to the “Old Alliance” , or the Auld Alliance between the Scotland, the Norway and the France. This alliance had been reinforced in XVIe century by marriages between the crown of Scotland and that of France. But the Scottish Parliament very favorable to Protestantism had decided to put an end to the war with the England and to recognize Elisabeth I {{Re}} for Queen of England and to found the new religion like official worship. France renonçait by signing the Traité of Edinburgh with all its rights on Scotland. Its rights were conferred to him by the queen of Scotland widowed Marie Stuart of François II of France and girl of Marie de Guise and the king Jacques V of Scotland.

Thus the Vieille Alliance between the two countries finished, even if certain clauses perdurèrent until in 1903.
