Treaty of Dunkirk

The Treated of Dunkirk of mutual assistance between the France and the the United Kingdom, was signed the March 4th 1947, with Dunkirk.

The signatories were Georges Bidault, French Minister for the Foreign affairs and Ernest Bevin, Secretary of State British for the Foreign affairs. The objectives which govern the concluding of this treaty find with the aim of protect from a possible German aggression , like in the will to tighten the economic relations between the two countries.

Major reactivation of the Franco-British Harmony, the treaty of Dunkirk in the beginning was directed against the risk of a resurgence of the expansionism German. However, the Soviet danger developing then quickly, the two countries will be directed then towards a broader alliance, under American supervision , which leads to the signature of the Traité of Brussels in 1948, then with the creation of NATO in 1949.
