Travonie

Travonie or Travounie (in Serb: Травунија or Травуња, in Latin: Terbounia , transliteration: Travunija or Travunja ) is a medieval state Serbe located close to Trebinje in the Herzégovine of the east (belonging to current the Bosnia-Herzégovine), and the Dalmatie (belonging to the Republic of Croatia).

Travonie, as well as the Dioclée and the Zachlumie were collectively referred like the Croatia Rouge according to De Regno Sclavorum of 753, found in the Chroniques of the priest of Duklja of the XIIe late century, while all the three were referred like Serb grounds , their people holding their origin of the Serbia Blanche according to De Administrando Imperio writes by the Empereur Constantin VII Porphyrogénète towards 950. Travunia bordered the Zachlumie in the west, the city of Raguse or Dubrovnik in south-west, the Dioclée in the south and the Serbia in north. Its maritime coast extended from Dubrovnik until the Bouches of Kotor.

History

Travonie entered in confederation with the Serb princes of Rascie very early. At the beginning of IXe century, the duke Vlastimir of Serbia Maria her daughter with the duke Krajina, wire of Beloje, the prince of Travonie.
