The trastuzumab ( Herceptin ®, called also usually under the term of herceptine ) is a recombining monoclonal Anticorps which acts on the receivers ErbB2 . It is used as drug anti cancerous in certain forms of Breast cancer.

Mechanism of action

It acts on a transmembrane receiver ( Erb32 , which activates a tyrosin Kinase) of a growth factor of which the expression is exacerbated in certain types of breast cancers and whose spontaneous evolution is particularly fast. In this case, the trastuzumab, given in the long run, involves a significant reduction of mortality and an increase in the rate of remission

Pharmacokinetic

It is available in the form of perfusion. Its half-life is long, allowing injections separated by deadlines from one several weeks.

Side effects

They are rare. Most frequent are an allergic reaction in less than 10% of the cases. A cardiac toxicity was described, generally reversible, whose mechanism is not clear.
