The TAD are distinguished from the other services of public transport because the Véhicule S do not borrow a Itinéraire fixes and do not respect a Horaire precise, except satisfying a particular need sometimes. The TAD are however organized by professionals of transport and, unlike the taxis, the voyages are in general not individual.

The operators of TAD generally use car S, Van S or Autobus of small size which accommodate between 4 and 20 passengers. The service functions only on request of a user (or his representative) near the service. An operator (or an automated system) undertakes then the Réservation, the Planification and the organization in order to deal with the whole of the travellers. The principal characteristic of the TAD is thus flexibility in the schedule and the route.

More largely, the systems of TAD are defined as any system which is not limited to a specific public and which is not a system with fixed route. According to the request and the organization, the vehicle deals with different Usager S, before depositing them each one with their destination.
