As in the majority of the European cities, the transport with Besancon are dominated by the Automobile. The city is well served by the Train, with in particular of the oars TGV which connect it to Paris. It is one of the only regional capital not to be had Aéroport.

Road service road

The agglomeration of Besancon is served by the highway A36 which connects Beaune and Mulhouse and which was brought into service in 1980. Because of topography of the city, circulation is problematic in Besancon and constitutes one of the major local stakes for the years to come. To cure it, of the achievements of scale are carried out since the beginning of the years 1990. A first answer to the problems of circulation was brought with the boring of a tunnel under the citadel partly making it possible to relieve congestion the streets of the downtown area by operating a direct junction between the RN 83 and the RN 57. A by-pass with 2x2 ways is also under development to circumvent the city, whose first section, called way of Montboucons , was open in 2003 and makes it possible to make the connection between penetrating known as the road of Dole (N73), road of Gray (D70) and road of Vesoul (N57). A new station of agglomeration, called Large Besancon-TGV, will be born on the territory of the commune of Auxon-Dessous. This new line will put Besancon at a little less than two hours of Paris against 2:40 currently. It should be noted that Vesoul is the only departmental prefecture of the area not to be connected to Besancon.

River service road

The city, established in a meander of the Doubs, is crossed by the Canal of the Rhone in the Rhine. Its gauge being rather reduced, only the boats of tourism arrive to Besancon.

A project of setting to large gauge had been born in 1961, but after the mobilization and the strong opposition during long years of the elected officials and inhabitants of the area, it was definitively abandoned in 1997.

Air service road

The agglomeration of Besancon, because of its topography with the broken relief and of an insufficient critical size does not have a Aéroport but shelters two small Aérodrome S located on the common neighbors: the Aerodrome of Besancon it Vèze with Vèze (with a service of plane taxi on all the Europe) and the Aerodrome of Besancon-Thise of Thise.

Besancon and fifty-eight the other communes of the community of agglomeration are served by the network of bus Ginko . This one consists of a fleet of 280 coaches and bus (104 coaches and 176 buses) of which 55 roll to the Natural gas of city, serving 53 different lines and 846 stations (624 in Besancon and 224 in the other communes). On the territory of the commune of Besancon, the average use of public transport is of 180 voyages per annum and per capita, that is to say the network more used province. Paid to the whole of the community of agglomeration, this figure goes down to 129 voyages per annum and per capita. The urban network is composed of 22 lines functioning of the Monday to Sunday of 5:30 to 01:00 while 31 lines ensure the service road of the network périurbain Monday to Saturday of 6:00 19:30, each commune profiting from 5 to 13 aller-et-retours per day towards the city.

From the more remote point of view, from here at 2012, the network Ginko, on the initiative of the town of Besancon and the Community of Agglomeration, will set up a network of TCSP (public transport in exclusive right of way) including corridors of bus as well as a " doux" mode;. The CAGB always hesitates for the material of the soft mode between a Trolley and a Tramway . Two layouts were adopted, the first energy of Châteaufarine to the SNCF railway station Viotte, and the second energy of Chalezeule to the pole Saint Jacques. Covoiturage

Cycle network

At January 1st, 2006, the commune of Besancon entered among its cycle installations 23.3 km of cycle tracks and 25.4 km of cycle tracks, 1.8 km of cycle misinterpretation and 4.4 km of corridors of buses authorized with the bicycles, are on the whole 55 km of cycle routes.

Within the framework of the community of agglomeration, the first four interurban sections will be open in 2007: district of Besancon-Palente/Thise, district of Besancon-Tilleroyes/Greenhouse-the-Fir trees, Forest of Chailluz/Braillans and Gare of the Saone the Saone. In the long term, the information system strategic plan of Large Besancon lays down a network of 300 km covering the totality of the 59 communes of the agglomeration.

Besancon is in addition located on the route of the EuroVelo road EV6, is said “ Of the Atlantic Ocean to the Black Sea ” and which connects Nantes to Constanta (Romania).

In addition, the inhabitant of Franche-Compt3e capital is equipped with a system of bicycles in self-service, Vélocité since September 2007, placing at the disposal 200 bicycles out of 30 stations. It thus joined the cities having adopted the Cyclocity.

Ways pedestrians

The city was one of the pionnières in the creation of pedestrian sectors as of the years 1970 in the historical quarters of the Loop and of Leaf. Today, it took delay of the fact in particular difficulties imposed by the initial site in “basin” which does not make it possible satisfactorily to circumvent the historical center to make mainly it pedestrian. The reflection is however launched for the pietonnisation of ways in the peripheral districts.
