  • Éco-points (Ökopunkte): to limit pollution due to the road traffic of transit, Austria founded since 1992 an authoritative mode of limitation of the traffic by subordinating the transit duty to the presentation of éco-points. Those are allocated annually with each country of the European Union, with load for those to distribute them between their conveyers. Each éco-point gives the right to emit one gram of nitrogen oxide (Nox) per kilowatt-hour. Each heavy truck must pay with each passage a number of éco-points which depends on the distance covered and the design features of the vehicle. In the event of fraud, it incurs a fine of 1450 euros. Since 1998, control is done automatically by reading of labels affixed on the windshield. This system contributed to contain the development of the road transit in Austria and remains in application until in 2006 in agreement with the European commission.
