Road transport
Lyon is known for its key position between North and South, upstream of the valley of the Rhone, but it is also about a major road crossroads:
Rail-bound transport
Lyon, rail junction
Lyon is a major rail junction at the national level. The city is in the center of a star located on the main axis of old PLM at crossed axes connecting Paris to the the Mediterranean and the Italy on the one hand and the Germany with the Spain on the other hand.
Many antennas, towards Saint-Etienne, Roanne, Borough-in-Bresse, Chambéry, Grenoble, Geneva radiate around the agglomeration.
The train in the agglomeration
The railway network gives access to certain peripheral, close communes or a little more distant.
The principal Lyons stations are:
- Lyon Share-God: national traffic (TGV) and room (FOR THE THIRD TIME). One of the most important stations of correspondences of Europe;
- Lyon-Perrache: more specialized in the traffic FOR THE THIRD TIME, it is also terminus of certain national relations (of which TGV towards Paris);
- Lyon-Saint-Paul (terminal) and Throat-of-Wolf (correspondence with the line D of the subway): on the lines of the Lyons West;

The train in the area
See the article detailed on the FOR THE THIRD TIME the Rhone-Alps whose Lyon is the principal node.
Beyond
Lyon was always an important railway center. Nevertheless, the startup of TGV in 1981 gradually changed the interregional and national communications. After the success of the new line towards North and the capital, the line towards the Mediterranean contributes to the modernization of transport.
The city is connected by the TGV to Paris, at the South, in North and the West. The TGV stops at the stations of the Share-God, Perrache (towards Paris only), and more recently that of the airport Saint-Exupéry. Regional connections also exist towards the Burgundy, the Alsace, the Brittany, the the Alps and the Massif Central.
The financing of the line of TGV the Rhine-Rhone is in the course of finalization for its branch Is (Dole - Mulhouse) and the first work are committed. This line will make it possible to decrease run times towards Belfort, Mulhouse and Strasbourg.
The construction of the line TGV between Lyon and Turin is intended to facilitate the crossing of the the Alps.
Air transport
The international airport of Lyon, called Lyon-Satolas a long time, has borne for a few years the name of Lyon-Saint-Exupéry. He knows an important traffic of correspondences and has a station TGV.
