Transport aircraft

See also: Cargo liner

A transport aircraft or airfreighter is a plane intended to transport material or goods of a point to another. In the case of a military transport aircraft, it can be also used to transport soldiers or parachutists. On the other hand, in the civil field, one distinguishes the airfreighters from the airliners transporting of the passengers.

History

Planes transported the mail as of 1911, but it is only starting from 1920 that certain manufacturers started to manufacture planes especially dedicated to goods transport.

Certain commercial apparatuses have their variations cargo liner like the Boeing 747 or Douglas DC-3. Others are especially designed for a military use, with the image of the Lockheed C-130 Hercules.

Airbus has its own airfreighters for the routing of its parts enter its various production sites, thus was formerly used the Super Guppy, replaced today by the Beluga.

Military transport aircraft

The military transport aircraft must transport the men and the materials on the zones of conflict. One their characteristics is to be able to take off and land on rudimentary tracks and short distances.
