Transport Aereos Meridionais
TAM Brazilian Airlines in Portuguese TAM Linhas Aéreas S.A. (Code AITA: JJ ; Code ICAO: TAM ) is a Airline company Brésil, based with Sao Paulo.
TAM means Transportes Aéreos Meridionais (air transports of the south).
It has a fleet of 53 Airbus, of which Airbus A330, Airbus A320 and Airbus A319.
Recently, the president of TAM, Mr. Marco Bologna announced the purchase of 10 new A320 Airbus which will be delivered as from 2005, over one 4 years period. Airbus also has guarantees the option on 20 other apparatuses of the same model, according to the development of the interior market and in South America.
In June 2006, TAM announces with the Le Bourget the control firm of 10 new Airbus A350 -900 which will be delivered starting from 2012. This plane transports 300 passengers on flights of 13.890 km.
Destinations
In addition to very many interior destinations in Brazil, TAM serves since 1999: Paris starting from Sao Paulo and of Recife (since 2005), like Miami in Florida since 1997 and New York (since 2005).
Its subsidiary company TAM Mercosur also serves the Paraguay, the Bolivia, the Uruguay, the Chile and the Argentine.
Accidents and incidents
- on July 17th, 2007, a320 Airbus registered PR-MBK, the Vol 3054 TAM ensuring an interior flight made a landing missed on a track softened against a warehouse by the TAM in the vicinity immediate by the airport by Congonhas, with São Paulo, killing its 180 passengers and 6 team members and a score of people on the ground. It is to date the most serious air crash of the history of Brazil.
