Transmitter of Emley Moor
The transmitting Emley Moor is a transmitting radio frequency located in the sector of heather of Emley Moor, close to the village of Emley, not far from Huddersfield in the Yorkshire of the West in England. History
The current structure is the third to occupy the site of Emley Moor. A first tower of 135 m was set up in 1956 to diffuse ITV in the area of Yorkshire. It was replaced by a 385 height m stayed mast (similar to that of the Belmont) in 1964.March 19th, 1969, the structure crumbled, because of strong winds and of the weight of the ice which had been formed in top of the mast. After a series of temporary masts, the construction of the current tower began in 1969 and the first transmissions were effectée on January 21st, 1971.
The British government classified the tower as being “of a historical and architectural interest significant” in 2002.
