Transmitter of Donebach

The transmitting Donebach is a transmitting radio frequency located at Donebach, in the German Land of Bade-Wurtemberg. Its masts, a 363 m height, make the 2 of them E the highest structure of Germany (after the Turn of television of Berlin).

Characteristics

The transmitter of Donebach is a transmitter long waves of 500 kw using the Fréquence 153 Khz and transmitting the program of Deutschlandfunk ( Deutsche Telekom ).

The masts of the transmitter are the 2 E the highest structure of Germany (the Tour of television of Berlin is slightly higher with 368 m).

The frequency of the Carrier wave is given by a Atomic clock to the Rubidium located in the enclosure of the station.

The geographical coordinates of the two masts are 49° 33 ' 36" NR, 9° 10 ' 55" E and 49° 33 ' 43" NR, 9° 10 ' 28" E.

History

The transmitter was built between 1965 and 1967 on a closed down Aérodrome and was brought into service the March 10th 1967, then using four 200 m height masts connected by cables to their top, connected to a fifth central mast supplied with the radio operator program. This system of transmition Omnidirectionnel led to Interférence S with the Rumanian transmitter of Braşov which used the same frequency; thus, although a Puissance of maximum emission of 250 kw was possible, only 70 kw were used. Occasional jammings of Braşov occurred nevertheless in spite of this reduced power and the transmitter of Donebach was rebuilt in 1972: two masts were dismounted and the two others rebuilt in order to obtain a power of minimal emission towards Braşov.

The plan of emission of Geneva of 1975 stipulated the limits of the transmitter of Donebach; the allowed maximum power was of 500 kw the day and 250 kw the night, always with a minimum in the direction of Braşov. Thus, two new transmitters were installed in 1982 with a power of 250 kw each one. The masts were then replaced by two new 363 m height masts, connected to the ground, the power of emission being transmitted by cables. The top of the new masts is in fact made up of the old masts.
