The term Émetteur-récepteur is used in several contexts.

  • In the data-processing networks of the type Ethernet, the transceiver (or MAU, Medium Access Links) is inserted between the cable which forms the network (twisted pair or coaxial) and the physical interface on the machine. It thus allows the fastening of the station the network. The cable connecting the transceiver to the machine is called cable of descent, cables AUI or drop cable in English.

  • In Radioelectricity, the transmitting receiving S S are primarily used by the users entitled to communicate by radio, such as the Armée, the Civil protection, the police force, the Radioamateur S, etc.
    Les Anglo-Saxon speak about transceiver , contraction of TRANSmitter (transmitting) and reCEIVER (receiving). This word is sometimes francized in transceptor .
