Transfered (dance)

The Vira (in Portuguese, O transfered is male) is a traditional Danse Portuguese in 3 times, originating in the area of the Minho but widespread until Lisbon.

This sharp Valse rural appears at the 18th century and is danced in couple. It is accompanied by instruments and one or several singers.

Transfered “basic”, called transfered geral , is carried out in couple, vis-a-vis the partner, arms raised (arms of the man surrounding those of the woman). He is composed of a refrain where the partners turn together (revolution on a common circle + rotation of the partners one around the other), without leaving the position opposite. A verse follows (or appears), each time different, where the partners carry out steps either face to face, or laterally (out of mirror or each one in its direction).

There exists a large variety of transfered:

  • the transfered corrido , made up of run steps and of fast towers
  • the transfered valseado , made up by a circle of couples
  • the transfered cruz , danced by two couples laid out in cross.
