The Goa Trance or Hippie Trance (often called Goa or 604 by analogy graphic with GOA ) is a form of Electronic music. It is a style of Trance which comes from the Indian State of Goa, which is rather single because the majority of the forms of Trance were developed in Europe.

Trance-Goa is closely related to the appearance of the psychedelic Trance or Psytrance during second half of the Années 1990, but the difference between the two kinds is mainly a question of opinion (if they are regarded as synonyms by some, others find Trance psychedelic more “metal” and “organic” Goa more). They are however both distinct from the other forms of trance on the sound level, mainly because of the single sounds which they use. On the cultural level, they are generally more undergrounds and less commercial than of another styles of trance. One is likely more to hear the sound Goa in turnip-party, with festivals in the open air and in festival S that in the boxes and places like Ibiza.

The first compilations or albums where one could distinguish with the ear the sound Goa from the normal Trance, are undoubtedly Project II Trance of Dragonfly Records and its continuation Order Odonata .

History

This music has its roots in the State de Goa at the end of the Années 1960 and at the beginning of the Années 1970, held for a mecque kind of Hippie although the style of current Trance-Goa appeared only at the beginning of the Années 1990. The surge of tourists decreased in the years 1970 and 1980 but an hard core remained in Goa, concentrating on the development of the music all as a practitioner of other activities such as the Yoga and the festive consumption of drugs. Didn't the finally known music under the name of Trance-Goa evolve/move starting from a single kind but especially took as a starting point the New Wave of Depeche Mode and New Order, of the industrial Musique/EBM with Front 242, Front Line Assembly and has Split-Second, of the Acid-House (in particular “ What time is coils? ” of psychedelic KLF) and the Rock'n'roll with Ozric Tentacles, Steve Hillage and Ash Ra Tempel. Moreover, the music tribal/ethnic Orient ale became also a source of inspiration, which does not have anything of surprising if one considers that it is of Goa, in Orient, that Trance-Goa is originating. An example (1974) of the relation between the rock'n'roll psychedelic and the music which would be known thereafter under the name of Trance-Goa is the album very experimental and psychedelic “Galactic Supermarket” of the Cosmic Jokers (a collaboration between Ash Ra Tempel and Klaus Schulze), which comprises per moments of rates/rhythms 4/4 interlaced with bits of Rock'n'roll psychedelic, synthés analogical and, time with other, reasons for tribal drums.

The introduction of the music Techno and its techniques to Goa carried out to what would become thereafter the style Trance-Goa; the first artists include the DJ Laurent, Fred Disko, Goa Gil, and a little later Mark Allen. Many “fêtes  ” (generally similar to the Turnip party but with a more mystical atmosphere, at least with the beginning of the year 1990) are entirely devoted to this kind of music. In the other countries, Goa is also regularly played turnips, festivals and festivals in conjunction with other styles of Trance and Techno.

Today, Trance-Goa has a significant posterity in Israel. Goa is primarily of the music “Dance-Trance” (it was indicated like “Trance Dance” in its formative years). In fact, Trance-Goa remains a form of music underground and with share for the most popular artists (Hallucinogen, Juno Reactor…), the albums of Trance-Goa are generally not sold in the principal record dealers.
