Tram-train of the Meeting
The tram-train of the Meeting is a Train-tram whose specific ways must be built as from 2008 in the north of the island of the Réunion, Overseas department French in the Indian Ocean.
Nearer to a Train than of a Tram, the vehicle will be made up only of one long oar forty meters and will be able to transport juqu' to 250 passengers.
The planning of work
The startup of what will constitute the first means of Transport rail-bound regular available in the island since the closing of the first railroad a few decades ago for the moment is programmed in 2012. The vehicle will then borrow a first section of 38 kilometers between the Aéroport of Gillot from north and the downtown area of Saint-Paul in the west. At the beginning of the communal territory of Sainte-Marie, it will cross initially the downtown area of Saint-Denis then the district of the Mountain, the commune of the Possession before carrying out a small deviation in the downtown area of the Port. It will reach its other terminus while crossing Cambaie, a zone in the course of urbanization which accommodated formerly an antenna of the Navigation system Omega.
The extension of the line beyond Saint-Gilles should follow quickly. This operation will be finally supplemented by a new extension much more important along the Western coast until Saint-Pierre while passing for example by Saint-Louis. The other end of the line will be prolonged of a smaller Holy-Suzanne extension until in same time.
Discussed options
It is decided beginning 2006 course which will borrow the vehicle in the downtown area of Saint-Denis, the two options up to now selected being of one by one way skirting the coast and in addition a layout following the new Southern Boulevard, officially the boulevard Jean-Jaurès.The way according to which will be crossed the locality the Mountain will be as for it given at the end of the first quarter of the same year. It is a question of slicing between an eleven kilometers long Tunnel comprising only one passage to the free air on a Work of art on the level of the Large Launch or rather an air layout which would allow the valorization of vast strategic original grounds for the development of the island.
The year 2006 will see moreover the development of the schedule of conditions. The following year will be that of the consultation of the companies. A primary market allotted to Thalès is the subject today of an international survey which was evoked on several occasions in the national press at the end of 2005.
Public-private financing
The public-private financing will be discussed in plenary assembly of the Area as soon as the health of its president Paul Vergès allows it.
The SR 21 (Société of mixed economy directed by Pierre Vergès, the son of the president of the district council), which deals with the Tram-train, decided on its way of financing: she chose a public-private partnership.
