Methods of the contest

Obtaining these certificates is done in two years. It is necessary to be titular license or of an equivalence recognized to be registered with the contest. The inscription with the contest itself is independent of the inscription to the exempted preparations and is made via the services of the Rectorat of the academy of the candidate. Precise admission requirements can vary between the Academic institutes of training of the Masters (IUFM) who organize these preparations (PLC1).
  • a first year of IUFM devoted to the preparation of the contest (this stage is not obligatory, it is possible to arise to the contest CAPES without being last by a preparation with the IUFM)
  • the contest breaks up into two parts:
    • the written tests which determine which candidates are “acceptable” (i.e. authorized to pass the oral tests)
    • the oral tests which decide final admission.
Each year the ministry fixes, for each discipline, the number of post offices put at the contest. These numbers are very variable from one discipline to another and can fluctuate from one year to another. The jurys, in each discipline, are sovereign and decide bars of admissibility and admission. They cannot obviously admit more candidates that it does not have stations offered there, but can admit some less. The jurys are composed professors in exercise, station in secondary education or superior, and of academic inspectors - regional teaching inspectors (IA-IPR).

Method of admission to the CAPES

The success with the contest is followed one year of remunerated training course associating formation in IUFM (2/3 of the working time) and course “in situation” vis-a-vis classes (1/3 of the working time), between four and six hours per week generally.

The trainees are subjected at the end of the training course for the examination by professional qualification. The composition of the academic jury is fixed by rectorial decree. If the candidate is not allowed at the time of the initial deliberation, it is subjected to an inspection.
