Traffic of animals

The traffic of animals is the illegal trade of protected animals and poses a serious problem for the conservation of the species. If the Deforestation, the Urbanization and the Pollution are the main causes of the disappearance of the animal species and vegetable, the traffic of animals has to him also a considerable impact on certain species and the balance which depends on it.

Description

The trade of a species, dead or alive specimens, entirety or certain bodies, involves most of the time its hunting in nature, and have often to cause a decrease of the populations until a critical point where the survival of the species is threatened, to see even its disappearance like the Rhytine de Steller.

One considers that it is about the third larger world illegal trade, behind the drug trafficking (400 billion dollars per annum in 1995) and the Trafic of weapons (difficult estimate), the traffic of animals puts in danger the biological diversity of planet, in particular by his impact on the large mammals. Association international ecologist World Wild Fund (Funds World for Nature - WWF) estimates the market at 15 billion Euro S per annum.

Fight against the traffic

Coercive means can be opposite with the traffic of animals, as the formation of brigades anti-poaching (as it is the case in several national parks and reserves of Africa and Asia), customs control (in the Aéroport S and the port S especially), even the inspection of the trade of sale of animals and breeding S.

However, certain difficulties must be surmounted:

the brigades anti-poaching must sufficiently be equipped and remunerated; agents badly paids work often badly, and can even lend hand-strong to the poachers;
it is sometimes difficult to avoid the abuses (for example, shootings without summation on poachers and settlings of score) in these brigades, which must be sufficiently formed;

There exist also means of fight against the poaching " with the source" , by improving the Standard of living of the local communities (generally living in poor countries), by various means:

the ecotourism;
the Craft industry;
the Agriculture provided that it is not itself too destroying of the Environnement;
the breeding, including rare species in order to decrease the taking away in nature (as it is the case for some Poisson of aquarium, the Insecte S, etc…).
