The traditional CAPES of letters is the Concours of recruitment of the Professor S of the colleges and general and technical colleges, in the discipline of the traditional Lettres.
The professors are specialists in language and literature French, Latin and Greek.

Tests of admission
1. This test comprises a talk followed by a discussion with the members of the jury. It takes support on documents proposed by the jury in one of the disciplines of the contest. It makes it possible to the candidate to show:
- that he knows the contents of teaching and the programs of the discipline to the college and the college;
- that it thought on the finalities and the evolution of the discipline like on the relations of this one with the other disciplines;
- that it thought of the civic dimension of any teaching and more particularly of that of the discipline in which it wishes to exert;
- that it has aptitudes for the oral expression, the analysis, the synthesis and the communication;
- that it can give a report on elementary knowledge on the organization of a school of the second degree.
Internal competition
The program of the tests is that of the colleges of mainstream education and technological and the colleges.
Test of admissibility
1. This test takes support on three texts of approximately thirty lines each one, belonging respectively to the French, Latin and Greek literature and presenting a coherence set of themes or credits. The texts of Latin and Greek literature are given in translation, except a short passage in original language. The three texts are distributed simultaneously to the candidates at the beginning of the test.
The candidate translates the short passage into original language of the Latin text and the Greek text. He comments on then the French text. This comment comprises a comparison with the texts of Latin and Greek literature.
Test of admission
L' test takes support on a file proposed by the jury which takes account of the level of teaching (college or college) in which the candidate has experience. The candidate makes known this level at the time of the inscription to the contest. The candidate must analyze the documents constituting the file proposed. In its talk, it specifies the use which it would make of these documents in the class or the classes indicated in the file. It defines its objectives; expose the methods and the progression of its step; propose exercises; explain the awaited results. Maintenance has as a base the situation of teaching suggested and is extended to certain aspects of the track records of the candidate.
