Trade of the Coolies

The coolie trade makes following abolition slavery, generally beginning in 1834. It calls massively upon Coolies or Indian Kulis or Engagés for the Indian Ocean and the Antilles, and Chinese, especially for the Nouveau World, on the terms of a five year old contract, at the end which, theoretically, they could regain their birthplace. Even if the coolie had a legal protection while being provided with a contract, in the facts, being subjected to the slave spirit of the time, it had to undergo an ill treatment recalling the black hours of the Esclavage. UNESCO has just paid a homage to the Coolies or Engagés, by issuing the Aapravasi Ghat (ghat of the immigrant) World heritage of Humanity in 2006. The island should become a single place of the meeting of the road of the coolie and Route of the slave.
