Tracing paper

The tracing paper is a translucent type of paper. It is manufactured by paper immersion of good quality in sulphuric Acid during a few seconds. The acid causes to transform part of the Cellulose, and that gives for effect the translucent character of the tracing paper.

The tracing paper is used to reproduce a drawing (artistic or technical) which is thus visible through paper. One obtains a layout with identical (although reversed). It should be noted that the pure cellulose fiber is already translucent. It is the air imprisoned between the fibers which makes paper opaque and visually white. If paper is sufficiently " raffiné" to eliminate the air between fibers, the sheet will be also translucent.
